About MTG CaPA
We are More Than Gold Creative and Performing Arts (MTG CaPA) welcoming the World to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Games. More Than Gold is a network of Christian organizations and denominations partnering to serve the city in this key time of its history. Specifically focussing on More Than Gold's emphasis of radical hospitality and social concern (anti-poverty, anti-sex-trafficking and creation care), our CaPA artists will be expressing creative outpourings that speak of life, relationship, justice and faith. Our artists come at their own expense to serve this community - they are internationally renowned, and local, artists of excellence from all genres (hip hop dancers, jazz trios, rock bands, tap dancers, comedic actors, rappers & DJ's, contemporary dancers, pop singers, classical musicians, country/folk, First Nations and more...). CaPA artists will be hosted on various downtown stages, live music venues and coffeehouses. See our "events" page for details.
Sustainability Initiative Partners
Sex Trafficking - partnering with REED
The Olympics are expected to attract thousands of spectators to Vancouver, raising concern that organized criminals may traffic women to keep up with demand for paid sex. Buying Sex is NOT a Sport is a grassroots campaign to raise awareness and effect change around sex trafficking and the Olympics. It is also a fight for the dignity and freedom of women, children and men. Consider how you can be part of a positive solution to sexual exploitation. GET INVOVLED! Join in this campaign to spread the message broadly - through community-based public forums, postering campaigns, promotional materials, and a website.
Homelessness / Affordable Housing - partnering with Shalom Seekers
For many, sustainability resonates with the more profound call to shalom, which is the shared experience of holistic well-being which emerges when we are in right relationship with Creator, each other, and the environment around us. An integral aspect of shalom is justice and mercy for our most vulnerable neighbours. When we empower them to discover and release their natural potential into mainstream society, we all will be transformed. Poverty, like the city itself, is a dense web of mutually reinforcing factors; reducing poverty and increasing the well being of the city requires the concerted effort of a wide variety of people and professions.
Creation Care - partnering with A Rocha
Environmental issues and poverty are inextricably linked. People living in poverty, globally and locally, are impacted the most by environmental degradation and climate change. Access to clean water and healthy ecosystems are essential, particularly for those living in the global south. Our big footprint life styles increasingly impact the poorest among us. There are lots of ways to take action - the bring change, transformation, restoration, and hope.
